Obama to Australia

Yoohoo - Obama is coming to Australia - thankyou election years!  last time a USA President came to Australia our then leader of the opposition couldn't resist a snub and an insult.  Wonder what the reaction of our new Opposition Leader Tony Abbott will be to Obama's visit?  But more importantly, can we get Obama to come to Queensland?  Perhaps I might get to meet him here and not there after all.

Expectations

Perhaps I was always aware of this but I need to remind myself constantly: we can’t expect Obama to do change singlehandedly. We all have to do our bit. It sounds like a cliché but an important cliché!

Back in Brisbane after the US trip

I still, frequently, talk to the people I met around the world on my journey. Every time I hear their voices and remember their stories, it reminds me of what I need to do. It motivates me to keep going. The daunting task of meeting the President is very scary but I know that I need to continue if I want the work that so many of us have put into collecting these messages to pay off. Change does not come easy.

Letter from the White House

I got a letter from the White House saying that at this time my meeting with the President is not going to be possible but they will put me on file. Yeah right! I know I am only one of the thousands of people wanting to meet the President but I can’t give up. I just can’t. I am thinking of a new way to approach this...

Union Rescue mission

I was shocked and appalled to meet the sick, suffering and neglected Americans who reside in down town Los Angeles after being released from overcrowded hospitals and mental institutions. The Union Rescue Mission houses the people who, by law, should still be receiving medical treatment for their conditions. The Mission is a privately owned organization run by people who fight the injustice of a medical hierarchy. Some of the ill and suffering people living in this area of the metropolitan city have lost all hope of getting proper help and regaining their health. I talked to these people and recorded their stories for the President.

My letter to the President

Today, I phoned the White House. I wanted to work out the best way to get to meet President Obama and figured that the epicentre of his world would be the right place to get the best information. I was right! A really nice helpful guy informed me that meeting with the president is not an easy process and could even be called “impossible”. He did say writing a letter was the most appropriate approach. So the letter is written and it’s sent.  Am waiting for a response now!
